Music has always played a huge part in Spencer’s life. From a young age Spencer started singing a long with the radio and the music his parents listened too. The first instrument he began playing was saxophone at age 10. As he got older he picked up more instruments but his main instruments are Bass, Guitar, and vocals. He attended Santa Fe University of Art and Design and Graduated in 2015 Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors in Music Performance with a focus on electric and upright bass. This is also when his interest in songwriting truly blossomed.

Spencer started writing his own songs at around 16 but didn’t take to it seriously until his years in Santa Fe. “I have always had strong emotional responses to music, creating my own is very cathartic.” Spencer like many uses his songwriting as an outlet. “These songs come from personal experiences. Creating the songs is a way to get things in perspective and attempt to work through them.” Spencer’s music has been described as dark folk/world music fusion.

Spencer is also a founding member of the rock/funk group The Vandevier Breaks. Starting in the summer of 2018 The Vandevier Breaks have been playing a variety of covers and originals throughout northern Arizona. Spencer acts as bassist and vocalist along side Eric Caroffino Guitar and vocals and Kevin Kinghan percussion, harmonica, and vocals. All 3 members come together in the songwriting process creating a diverse fusion of original music.

Spencer also works as a session bass player and vocalist. He as worked with artists in northern Arizona as well as some in Phoenix. “ I enjoy working with other artists and the challenge of writing in styles that are not in my comfort zone”
